Smart Logic AIS Helps to Make Better Decisions

Collision Avoidance – Cortex M1 is a full Class B SOTDMA transceiver combining GPS, AIS and heading data with smart logic to proactively warn of certain collision risks with alarms or voice-annunciated alerts that escalate until acknowledged. AIS vessel information (name, bearing and relative position) is continuously provided using AIS information broadcast from other boats.

Anchor Watch – Using actual anchor position from the bow and the Cortex built-in heading sensor, smartAIS tracks boat movement and sounds an alarm if the anchor drags or if there is a change in wind speed, direction or water depth. While on the boat, get alerts on a compatible mobile device via the Cortex Onboard app – or via the Cortex Monitor app when ashore.

Man Overboard – Cortex smartAIS continuously watches for man overboard (MOB) activations, sounding an alarm when it detects one. MOB can be manually activated via the Cortex Onboard smart device app or automatically from an AIS MOB beacon — which launches a track-back mode for quicker retrieval.

DIrectional Voice Alerts – In the event of a collision alarm, Cortex will announce the direction of a collision threat, such as “collision alert, starboard bow.” Instead of an ambiguous beep that other AIS systems provide, Cortex tells users what the alert is for and the direction of the threat.

Monitoring And Control – Check boat status, receive alerts and control devices with Cortex remote monitoring access using Cortex handsets (sold separately) or Cortex smartphone apps. Directly connect up to 5 external sensors to the system for added monitoring capability.

Cortex Monitor App – Subscribe to a premium Cortex Monitor plan to receive alerts, see real-time information about the boat and remotely control devices such as air conditioning, lighting, refrigeration or ice makers using the Cortex Monitor app on a compatible smartphone.

Cortex Onboard App – While on the boat, the Cortex Onboard app can serve as the primary interface with the Cortex M1 hub, allowing the monitoring of boat stats, receive alerts, view instrument data and display AIS screens on a compatible smart device.

Make Intentions Clear – Broadcast built-in heading via AIS transmissions to other vessels so they can more accurately track their closest point of approach and alter course.

Network Connectivity – Cortex can receive and broadcast information over NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 networks, making it compatible with the majority of modern chartplotters and multi-function displays.

Robust Technology For Harsh Marine Environments

Rugged, Durable Design – Water-rated to IPX7 standards, the Cortex hub’s thermal polymer housing is heat- and corrosion-resistant — so it can be safely mounted nearly anywhere onboard.

Low Power Consumption – Engineered for minimal power consumption at just 500mA, the Cortex hub can stay on full-time to keep users informed. It will send alerts even when the MFD is turned off – ideal to conserve power when anchored or on a long voyage.

Galvanic Isolation – Galvanically isolated ports and internal components protect the Cortex hub and connected equipment from electrical shorts and circuit damage in the corrosive marine environment.

Multi-Constellation GNSS – With fast 10Hz GPS updates that keep up with any vessel, the vessel position is plotted using multiple global satellite networks. When connectted to other devices using NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183, all onboard equipment benefits from Cortex’s super-fast GPS capability.

Peace-of-mind Monitoring and Connectivity

Monitor Systems – See status and history of built-in and connected sensors. Monitor bilge, security, power and other instruments. Set alarms and alarm thresholds, review data history and know when the sensor was last active.

Built-in Sensors – GPS, heading sensor, battery sensor and barometer provide valuable out-of-the-box information on and off the boat as soon as its pluged in and configured.

Networked Sensors – Simply connect to the boat’s NMEA 2000 network to monitor factors such as wind speed and direction, or water depth from any other onboard devices.

External Sensors – Imagination is the limit – connect with sensors to monitor bilge activity and level, shore power, security systems and more (external sensors sold separately).

Cortex Monitor App – Download the Cortex Monitor app from the Apple or Google app store and use a compatible smartphone or tablet to monitor the vessel and receive alerts.

Geo-Fencing – Drawing upon the strength of the Cortex Monitor smart-device app and relying on the information being broadcast from the boat, know where the boat is – and if it’s where it should be. Get an alert if it moves outside a designated area.

Control Devices – Connect with the Cortex Monitor app to remotely control devices such as lights, air conditioning and ice makers on the boat by connecting them to the Cortex system.

Real-Time Updates – Cortex sends updates to the cloud, allowing status information and alerts to be seen directly on a compatible smartphone or tablet.

Monitor Lite – A Monitor Lite subscription is free with Cortex. View twice-daily updates on the Cortex system. See alarms from within the Cortex Monitor app.

Monitor Premium – See real-time updates on the Cortex Monitor app. Receive instant alarm notifications and control onboard devices. Access advanced features like geofence and Anchor Watch. Monitor Premium is available on a monthly or annual subscription.

NMEA Gateway – Cortex can receive and broadcast network data — or translate it between NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000. This makes it compatible with devices on either of those networks — plus it can link via built-in Wi-Fi® connectivity. Receive alerts directly on a compatible devices from anywhere onboard.

Connect To Roaming – Connect to a boat network with mobile or satellite data to roam where Cortex cellular data connectivity cannot reach.

Monitoring Made Easy – Register a compatible smartphone or tablet with Cortex Monitor, pairing it to the Cortex hub. Then use the Cortex Monitor app to remotely monitor the boat through built-in and connected sensors to the Cortex hub. Upgrade to a Premium subscription to get access to Anchor Watch and receive real-time push notifications.
